A beach was a sandy landform along a body of water, especially saltwater. Although the term could apply if it was along any body of water, even freshwater.

Overcrowded beaches was a concern of Doctor Hiram Gulliver, which was one of the reasons that he decided to shrink the Earth's population, so as to get the population explosion under control.[2]
