Chess

Aquaman and Wonder Woman play what appears to be a game of Chess.[1]

Chess was a classic board game, played on a checkered gameboard with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight grid.

It was one of the world's most popular games; often played in tournaments and even made popular as a video game called Video Chess.

Game objective[]

The game was played by two players, one that controlled an "army" of black pieces and the other white pieces.

The object of the game was to Checkmate the other player's king.

Chess pieces[]

The Chess pieces came in both black and white pieces. As mentioned, one player played with the black pieces while the other played using the white ones. They were as follows:

Pawn[]

In a standard game of Chess, both players were issued eight pawns.

They historically represented soldiers of infantry or armed peasants.

Rook[]

Generally rooks were about as strong as five pawns.

These knights were generally represented by a horse's head and neck.

In a standard game of Chess, both players were issued two bishops.

Although there was no restrictions in distance per move, a bishop was restricted to moving diagonally.

Queen[]

White queen

In a standard game of Chess, both players were issued one queen.

The queen was the most powerful piece in the entire game.

King[]

King[7]

In a standard game of Chess, both players were issued one king.

The king was the most important piece in the game, because if he were to be captured, this was considered a checkmate.

Movements[]

Check[]

A Check was when a player's king is attacked. If the other player was unable to move from the position that puts him out of check, then he will be captured on the next turn, and the player that captured him will be the winner.

Checkmate[]

Checkmate was the final movement in the game. This meant that the king was captured.

History[]

Earth 1956[]

Aquaman and Wonder Woman were once playing a game of Chess in the Justice League Recreation Room. The winner was not determined, as their game was interrupted by a TroubAlert.[8]

Checkmate, a government agency within Task Force X, uses the concept of Chess for their agency, which it is modeled after.
