Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy. He eventually resided in Spain, and became a sailor and completed four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean which led to Europe's general awareness of the existence of the American continents. It was his travels to the Americas that led to the Spanish colonization, and eventually the colonization of all of Europe.

In DC Comics, on Earth-One; Clark Kent and Lois Lane are guest passengers aboard the Columbus, mankind's first manned spaceship. The Columbus was named after Christopher Columbus. Also, the outer space adventurer known as Chris KL-99 was often thought of as the Christopher Columbus of outer space. In fact, he was named after him.
Christopher Columbus first appeared in Hit Comics # 29 (September 1943).
