Background Information

On the parallel-universe of Earth-One, in the mid 80's, Impala later joined forces with other African heroes and few of the Global Guardians. They were all soon brainwashed by the Queen Bee of Bialya.

As part of a public perception ploy, the Global Guardians and the Justice League were tricked into battling a giant, alien robot. The robot was sent by the Queen Bee herself, who wasn't too concerned if it were to kill any of the Guardians. During the battle, Impala 'rescues' Power Girl.

After coming to his senses, Impala takes some time off. While visiting Metropolis, he is attacked by the ancient being Fain Y'onia. The result of the battle is the loss of his powers. Before Fain is ultimately defeated, he causes the deaths of Impala's friends, Bushmaster and Thunderlord.

Impala is later involved in Roulette's house of games. He does not survive.

  1. The Zulu (Zulu: amaZulu) are the largest South African ethnic group of an estimated 10–11 million people who live mainly in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Small numbers also live in Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Mozambique. Their language, Zulu, is a Bantu language; more specifically, part of the Nguni subgroup. The Zulu Kingdom played a major role in South African history during the 19th and 20th centuries. Under apartheid, Zulu people were classed as third-class citizens and suffered from state-sanctioned discrimination. They remain today the most numerous ethnic group in South Africa, and now have equal rights along with all other citizens.
  2. As revealed in the SuperFriends ComicBook, issue #7 (October 1977)
