Starro (a.k.a. Starro the Conqueror) was a strange alien creature had a central eye and prehensile extremities resembling a giant starfish that could fly and travel in deep space. It appeared to only hunger for universal conquest, especially of planets that teamed with intelligent life.

History[]

Earth-One[]

In 1960 Starro arrives on Earth, empowered three starfish to wreak havoc by exploding an atom bomb and absorbing its energy, kidnapping scientists and absorbing their brain power and placing the residents of Happy Harbor and Rhode Island under its mental control. Justice League heroes: Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter and Wonder Woman work together to defeat the alien, eventually coating it with quicklime (at the suggestion of Snapper Carr), which nullifies its' abilities.[1]

A few more years later, it is learned not only had a segment of Starro survived, it had regenerated into a complete creature, but was stopped by Aquaman before it is able to renew its plan of conquest.[2]

Earth 1956[]

A few years later, it appears that a segment of Starro had survived. This time under the command of Captain Cuda. Together they are attacking the Jewel People for the riches they protect. Aquaman and Aqualad are able to defeat them. Captain Cuda is put to work in the Jewel Peoples mines. Starro escapes.[4]

By 1976, the JLA had a wax sculpture of Starro in the Hall of Justice.[5]

There was also a statue of Starro hanging from the wall of the Justice League Gym in the Hall of Justice.[6]

Earth 5C10L1[]

On this Earth, Starro claimed to be an Elder God. Oliver Queen met Starro when he found himself a castaway on Starfish Island.

Starro had been sleeping beneath Starfish Island for countless years, and even the island was shaped like him, since his impression was left there.[7]

Earth-508[]

One day, Starro set out to conqueror Earth. Unfortunately, he first needed Earth to be submerged under water. He brainwashed a group of scientists to convert their bases to accelerate global warming and dressing up as pirates to scare people away. These antics caught the attention of the Super Friends. He tried to take over the Super Friends, with only Aquaman being strong enough to stop Starro's spawns. Arthur called upon the help of ocean creatures, using the effects Starro's machinations to call the sea stars' natural enemies so their instincts outweighed Starro's. Arthur then charged the conqueror to distract it while Green Lantern sucked out the salt to weaken the creature. Captured, Starro was taken to Oa by Superman.[8]

On this Earth, in 2023, there was a statue of Starro hanging up on a wall in the Justice League Trophy Room in the Hall of Justice.[10]

It was more-or-less identical to the one in the Justice League Gym.[11]
