The Fear

Batman must overcome his fear of Crime Alley, the place his parents were killed, when the Scarecrow uses it against him in his crimes. But things are more complicated when Robin and Wonder Woman are captured.
Batman and Robin are in Gotham City, breaking up a robbery. One of the escaping crooks runs into an alley and Batman suddenly is paralyzed by fear. Later at Wayne Manor Diana Prince comes to visit after hearing of Batman's uncharacteristic behavior. Bruce Wayne explains to Diana and Dick Grayson that his parents were killed before his eyes in Crime Alley, which caused him to become Batman. Scarecrow, also learning of Batman's reaction to crime alley, sets a trap and uses a skull shaped fear inducing device to paralyze Batman with fear while trapping Robin in a net. Robin manages to call for help using his Justice League communicator and Wonder Woman arrives. Wonder Woman is netted, which she breaks free with her amazon strength, but not before Scarecrow escapes with Robin. At police headquarters Batman, Wonder Woman, Commissioner Gordon, and Professor Jonathan Crane all question one of the Scarecrow's thugs. He is terrified, and Professor Crane, a psychologist, advises against Wonder Woman using her magic lasso to get the truth at it might cause psychological damage. A crow flies into the office with a message for Batman, telling him to go to a farm on the outskirts of Gotham City is he ever wants to see Robin again. Batman decides to go, and Wonder Woman will back him up. Professor Crane asks Wonder Woman go come to his office before leaving as he has something in his files that might be a clue. Wonder Woman goes to Crane's office and is attacked by the professor with a fear inducer, causing her to have an extreme reaction to claustrophobia, and pass out. When Batman arrives at the farm he finds Robin bound like a scarecrow, and Wonder Woman with her bracelets fused together, robbing her of her Amazon strength. They are in the path of a large farm machine are in danger of being killed. Scarecrow gives Batman the choice of saving his friends or capturing him, but suddenly Superman and Samurai arrives and free Robin and Wonder Woman. Batman chases Scarecrow into the barn and informs the villain that he called in the Justice League when he lost contact with Wonder Woman. Scarecrow uses his fear inducer but Batman, knowing the fear isn't real, is able throught sheer willpower to overcome it and take the Scarecrow into custody.

- This was originally written as a pilot for a planned Batman spinoff, but when plans for that fell through, it was used as an episode of The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians.
